Fats Waller Musical Review “Ain’t Misbehavin’”
Opens in Vallejo February 10, 2006

The star-maker Fats Waller Musical Review of the jazz music of the 1920’s, 1930’s & 40’s, “Ain’t Misbehavin’” opens at the Fetterly Playhouse for the Arts, 3467 Sonoma Blvd., Suite 10, February 10, 2006 at 8 PM with a Preview Performance; all seats at $13.

Vallejo Music Theatre’s final production of their 39th Season will hold its annual major fund raising gala, “The Joint Is Jumpin’!” the following evening, February 11, 2006. The gala features silent and live auctions, dinner catered by City Lights and the show. The evening begins at 5:30 PM with a champagne reception and the silent auction. Former City Council Member Pamela Pitts is Honorary Chair for the Gala. Mrs. Pitts has also returned to the company as a member of the Capital Campaign Steering Committee raising funds for the restoration, retrofitting and installation of theaters at the historic old Post Office in downtown Vallejo. Members of the Auction Committee are seeking donations of trips, gift certificates, gift baskets, services and goods for the auctions. Goal for the evening is $20,000, attempting to best $17,000 raised last year at the annual event.

The first weekend matinee on February 12 at 2 PM offers a special dessert performance with a Q & A session with the directors, cast and crew at the end of the show. All seats are $13. Those interested in knowing more about Vallejo Music Theatre, how the company puts its programs together, are offered this opportunity at a reduced rate for the first weekend only.

Other evening performances are 8 PM February 17, 18, 24, 25, March 3 & 4 with ticket prices at $19 general, $17 senior/military and $15 students. Other matinees at 2 PM are February 19, & 26. All seats $15. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more and children under 5 are admitted free (except for the gala).

The show, written primarily for black actors by Jeffrey Gutcheon, Luther Henderson and William Elliott, featured Nell Carter when originally produced on Broadway, which made a star of Nell Carter and skyrocketed her career.

VMT’s production features main singers Catherine Franklin of Vallejo, Yvonne Dawes of Oakland, Laura Martin-Chapin of Pinole and Rudy Brown of Vallejo. On-stage audience/chorus includes Jan Bishop of El Cerrito, Jennifer Camp of Martinez and Ronnie DePriest of Benicia. Featured dancer is Kelly Scroggin of Sacramento. Director/Choreographer is Pamela Lourentzos from Sacramento; Musical Director and one of the main singers is Wayne Goodman of Vallejo.
